17/03/2010: UPDATE ON FORMER PRINT WORKS SITE

S.A.R.A. wish to update you on the current position re the Former Strines print works site.

As you know, Stewart Milne is the developer who currently owns this site. They contacted SARA some time ago and informed us that due to the current economic climate, they were looking to try to redesign the site in order to make it a more marketable prospect and would welcome our support.

We informed them that we had not changed our views regarding this site and still supported the outcome of the public enquiry.
Any proposed changes would need to offer major benefits to the area, community and to the environment in order for us to consider giving our support and furthermore these benefits would need to far outweigh any potential negative impact.

We have since met with them on a few occations to try to establish what exactly they had in mind so that we could organise a community meeting and inform all of you.
Unfortunatly dispite our best efforts, they were unable to give us much, in the way of detail.

Our talks with Stewart Milne have not been concluded however they have gone ahead and submitted a planning application which included the provision of more dwellings and the removal of greenspace.

We do not currently support their proposal as we feel it offers nothing to us as a community and we have informed them and STOCKPORT MBC of this.

We assure you that we will continue to act in the best interests of the community, area and environment and are aiming to organise a village meeting as soon as it is practical to do so. We are hoping that our consultation with Stewart Milne can continue and reach a more satisfactory conclusion.
We further assure you that we will not make any major decisions. As always these matters will be put to a public vote.

In the meantime we will submit an objection to the proposed increase in house numbers and the reduced provision of greenspace and hope to meet with you soon to inform you more fully of the situation.
Regards
S.A.R.A.
