Introduction
In February 2003, Strines had a wake up call when we learned of the proposed development of The Print Works site. It highlighted the need to have an organised group who could represent the community as a whole to ensure our views on this and any other issues affecting our community are heard.
The aim of the group is to try to provide help and support to residents, with issues affecting the community. We wish to work with local people to protect our environment, build on our community spirit and achieve a stronger sense of identity for Strines. Whilst taking on the serious issues which effect our village we would also like to organise a variety of social events including reviving some which used to take place like the Strines Barn Dance and Bullsh*t Competition.
"...we will work
together as a team
to provide help and
support to the
community where
needed."
Group Structure
The group has been structured as a co-operative. Each member will have their own areas of interest and particular skills, however we will work together as a team to provide help and support to the community where needed. . We would like the group to be approachable and wish to represent the interests of the entire community and would welcome anyone who wishes to be involved.
The Strines Community Fund.
Non of us know what surprises the future may hold for Strines. We are fortunate in having so many community minded people living in the area who are happy to help out as the need arises often at their own expense however
the Print Works situation has highlighted the fact that from time to time a community can be faced
with unforeseen problems which will sometimes need funding.
We have started T.S.C.F. so that as a village we can work together to raise money to pay for community events and projects as we need to. By organising social events /raffles etc. we can raise money which will be placed into the S.A.R.A. bank account. The fund will be managed by the S.A.R.A members and a community treasurer will be responsible for keeping records, which will be available for public viewing upon request.
We feel this is a great way for the community to enjoy activities together whilst raising money which can be put to good use, improving and protecting the village and its environment now and in the future.
If anyone has and ideas about fund-raising, Social Activites they would like to organise, or a community project which they feel the fund could be used for, please let us know.
